Nicholas G. Basalyga

Nicholas G. Basalyga Jr. 78, of Beverly Hills, FL and formerly of Scranton and Chinchilla died on June 11 at Bayonet Point Regional Medical Center in Hudson, FL.  Born June 7, 1939 in Scranton, son of the late Nicholas G. and Catherine O’Malley Basalyga. He graduated in the class of 1957 from Scranton Central High School.

His wife of 38 years, the former Elaine Regan, proceeded him in death in 1997. He worked for many years at Sugarmans Eynon Drug, and later as a real estate developer. Throughout his life he demonstrated his strong entrepreneurial spirit by developing various small business ideas and ventures.

Nick was also an accomplished musician and photographer. In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Catherine Kippycash, Eveline Maliszewski, and Thelma Basalyga. He is survived by wife Lana Munnings Basalyga, Nassau, Bahamas; sons Nicholas Basalyga and wife Theresa of Beverly Hills, FL, David Basalyga and wife Cristin of Mountain Top, Michael Basalyga of Clarks Summit; daughter Lori and husband Robert of Alden, NY; a sister, Annette Basalyga of Bridgeport, CT; brother-in law Daniel Regan of Scranton; stepdaughter Patrice Laing and husband Marcus of Nassau, Bahamas; 19 grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
