“Skip” H Drake

Grover H. “Skip” Drake, 79, Floral City passed away June 9, 2017 at home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus & Nature Coast. “Skip” was born in Jasper County, IN on June 1, 1938 to the late Grover Henry and Theresa Rose (Huisel) Drake and came to Citrus County in 1987 from California after retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy with over 20 years if service. He was a Life Member of V.F.W. Post 7122 in Floral City. He enjoyed fishing on the canal behind his home in Floral City and in earlier years, working on his car.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 18 years, Candy (Bland) Drake of Floral City; his daughter, Dawn Horton and her husband “Mo” of Charleston, SC; 3 brothers, 1 sister; 2 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Graveside services with Military Honors are scheduled for Friday, June 16th, 2:30 PM from Florida National Cemetery with VFW Post 7122 and a Hospice Chaplain officiating. Friends may meet on Friday at 1:00 PM at Chas E Davis Funeral Home to visit the family. The procession will leave for the cemetery at 1:45 PM.
