Mary Delores Oliff, 87, of Inverness, FL passed away June 7, 2017 under the care of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast in Lecanto, FL. She was born in Washington, D.C. on April 1, 1930 to the late Chester and Mary Elizabeth (Simms) Divins.
Mary arrived in this area 3 years ago coming from St. Petersburg, FL, and previously from Maryland. She was a Catholic by faith. Mary enjoyed listening to country music, dancing, and shopping. But most of all, she loved being a waitress. She enjoyed meeting people and waitressing, which she did until just 10 years before her passing.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, Julian Earl Oliff in 1992. She is also preceded in death by one son, John William Updike, Jr., and one sister, Margaret Akers. Mary is survived by her children, Vicki Tompkins and her husband Rick of Frederick, MD, Monica Tompkins of Port Richey, FL, Barbara Brotherton of Hernando, FL, Michael Updike and his wife Sheri of Port Charlotte, FL, and Robert Earl Oliff, Laurel, MD.
Mary’s urn will be laid to rest at High Springs Cemetery in High Springs, FL, next to her husband at a later date. Private cremation arrangements by Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
