Edward A. Powers, 96, Inverness passed away May 29, 2017 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Citrus & The Nature Coast. Mr. Powers was born in Yonkers, NY on November 20, 1920 to the late Grover and Elizabeth (Waldren) Powers and moved to this area in 1978 from Pennsylvania.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Other memberships include V.F.W. Post 4337, D.A.V. and the 27th Division Organization of the U.S. Army. He served our country during WW II, having been awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. Edward enjoyed bowling, golfing, reading, and spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 44 years, Lynda (Ridenbaugh) Powers, 2 sons, Patrick E. (Vicki) Powers, Jacksonville, FL; Daniel E. Powers, Littleton, CO; 3 daughters, Lorree (Dr. Alan) Houk, Bessemer, PA; Margaret Wheeler, Inverness, FL; Lee Ann (Robert) Deemer, Inverness, FL; 8 grandchildren, Scott Powers (deceased); Patrick Powers, Samantha Powers, Owen Powers, Evan Houk, Elissa Cowher, Erin and Zach Wheeler; 3 great grandchildren, Shaye and Noel Powers, and Pierce Stewart. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters, Eleanor Tracey, Rita Murphy, Elizabeth Leonhardt, Margaret Tormey, and Geraldine McGuiness
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 3:00 PM from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church with Fr. Claudius Mganga , Celebrate. Burial will follow Friday afternoon, 2:30 PM at Florida National Cemetery with Military Honors rendered by V.F.W. Post 4337. The family will receive friends at the Chas E Davis Funeral Home Thursday from 1:30 PM until the procession departs for the church at 2:45 PM. Those wishing to go to Florida National Cemetery are requested to meet at the funeral home at 1:30 PM on Friday.
