Eugene Pittman, 82, Inverness, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2017 in the Citrus Health & Rehab Center. Gene was born in Forks Creek, Florida on November 22, 1934 to the late J.F. and Bunnie (Hobby) Pittman and came to Citrus County in 1974 following his retirement from the U.S. Air Force.

He retired as a Master Sgt with 21 years of service. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Orlando for 12 years. After moving to Citrus County, he became a very active member of the First Christian Church of inverness, and along with his wife, spent many hours a week dedicating their time to their church family. He dedicated his life to serving the Lord. He loved his church family like his own. Gene was a Deacon on the FCCI Board, headed the Facilities Ministry, making sure the buildings and campus were well maintained. He also helped to prepare the meals for Men’s Prayer Breakfasts and Wednesday night meals. Always the first to arrive at the church and the last to leave, he made sure the buildings were secure. If you needed a hug, he gave it to you. He also enjoyed working crossword puzzles. “Rest in the arms of Jesus my love, you earned it.”

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 32 years, Shirley Payne Pittman; 3 children, Jeffrey Pittman of Orlando, Bruce Payne, Sr and his wife, Tricia of Inverness, and his daughter, Susan Mott and her husband, Roger of Orlando: 1 sister, Christine Neal of Inverness; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, David, 6 brothers, Willis, Robert, Fred, Charles, Troy, and W.J. Pittman; 2 sisters, Edna and Erlene.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service at the First Christian Church of Inverness on Friday, April 28th at 11:30 AM with Dr. Ray Kelley officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the First Christian Church in Gene’s memory. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home With Crematory is assisting the family.
