Richard E. “Dick” Pittelkow, age 72, of Citrus Springs, FL passed away on December 3, 2016 at Citrus Hills Health and Rehab, Hernando, FL. Richard was born on October 21, 1944 in Oak Park, IL to the late Herman and Bernice (Gunderson) Pittelkow. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and was a Vietnam War Veteran. After his military service, Richard went on to become a Barber, a job he truly loved.

In 2001, he made Citrus County his home after moving from Colorado and was a member of Citrus Springs VFW Post #4864. Richard was mechanically inclined, built boats as a hobby and always did his own work and repairs on his and his families vehicles. He was also very athletic and was a gymnast and cheerleader in high school at Round Lake High School in Round Lake Beach, IL. He also won several dance contests when he was in high school. In his spare time he enjoyed outdoor activities including snowmobiling, skiing and fishing.

Those left to mourn Richard’s passing include his children: Mark S. Pittelkow of Spring Hill, FL, Michele Hetzel of Citrus Springs, FL, Dana Cotting of Pearl, MS; siblings: Jack Pittelkow of Ingelside, IL, Joyce Bergloff of Virginia, Jacqueline Krueger of Fox Lake, IL, Candy Gumm of Mississippi; and 3 grandchildren: Zachery Gray, Victoria Gray and Ridge Cotting. In addition to his parent’s, Richard was preceded in death by 3 siblings: Ralph Pittelkow, Carol Ann Curtis and Barbara Jean Grimes. Private cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
