Roland J. Sorel, age 89, of Homosassa, FL died October 13, 2016 at Seven Rivers Hospital, Crystal River. Roland was born on January 27, 1927 in Pawtucket, R.I. to the late Oscar W. and Clarinda (Ballard) Sorel. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy and was a Veteran of World War II. After his military service, he worked as an electrician and owned his own business. In 1971, he made Citrus County his home after relocating from Pawtucket, R.I. Roland was a lifetime member of VFW Post #8189, Homosassa, FL. He was an avid camper, enjoyed the outdoors and a member of the Citrus County Cruisers. Those left to mourn Roland’s passing are his daughter, Denise Tucker of St. Petersburg, FL; brother, Maurice Sorel of Homosassa, FL; sisters: Marie Domingues and Theresa Casavant both of Pawtucket, R.I.; his dear grandson, Robert Gaudette and his wife Nicole of Homosassa, FL; one great grandchild; and his loving partner of 20 years, Marion Hand of Homosassa, FL. In addition to his parent’s, he was preceded in death by his son, William R. Sorel in 2003 and three brothers. Roland’s urn will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at a later date. Private cremation arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
