Roger J. Lapp, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 19, 2016. Roger was a devoted follower of Jesus since he was 9 years of age, when he accepted Jesus as his personal savior. He was active in Baptist Churches throughout his life with the last one being the First Baptist Church of Inverness. He was born January 29, 1933 in Buffalo, New York.
Roger was a licensed pharmacist, graduating from the School of Pharmacy at University of Buffalo in 1957. He married Judith Bure on March 30, 1956 in Williamsville, New York. He was drafted into the US Army in 1958 and was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, from 1958 until 1960. After his discharge from the army, he became the pharmacy manager at the 745 bed Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, FL, where he served for over 25 years, followed by two years as Director of Professional and Extension Services.
He served on the Board of Directors of many charitable health societies, such as the American Cancer Society and Epilepsy Foundation. He served as the Vice President for the Florida Association for Mentally Challenged Citizens and was the recipient of the Brotherhood Award, as the person who had done the most for disabled citizens.
His leadership in pharmacy societies included the Southwest Florida Society of Hospital Pharmacists, which he joined in 1964, and served them in various capacities. In 1975 he was named as Hospital Pharmacist of the Year, their highest honor. He was also a member of the Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International, and the Pinellas County Pharmacists Society. In 1993, at the age of 60, he earned his Master of Arts degree from Trinity Theological Seminary of Newburgh, Indiana.
Roger is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy; two sons: Eric and Mark; three grandchildren: Stephen, Sarah and Rebekah; and two brothers: Walter and Paul.
Funeral services for Roger will be conducted on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 3:00 PM from the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home in Inverness, with Rev. Byron Brown, First Baptist Church of Inverness and Rev. Joe Maddox of Nature Coast Baptist Association, officiating. Burial will follow at the Hills of Rest Cemetery in Floral City. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 2:00 PM until service time.
