William Roger Hicks, age 89, of Bushnell, FL, died at his residence on March 12, 2016 surrounded by his loving family and while under the care of Cornerstone Hospice. May God let the sun shine on him always and forever. William was born on July 18, 1926 in Willard, OH to the late Clarence and Florence (Coy) Hicks.
He proudly served his country as a Sergeant as a member of the United States Army Air Corps from 1944 to 1946 and was a Veteran of World War II. William was the proud father of three children that he raised solely on his own. He was an excellent provider for them and was their lifelong fierce protector.
William greatly enjoyed nature, fishing and all the activities his children were involved in throughout their lives. He was a race car and motorcycle driver and was sponsored by Sinclair Oil at one time. In his spare time, William enjoyed watching football and racing. A skilled carpenter throughout his lifetime, precise, creative and beautiful handywork can be seen everywhere in and around his home. He also worked as a project manager in construction for Blake and Sarasota Hospitals for a number of years.
Those left to mourn William’s passing and cherish his precious memory are sons: David Hicks and his wife Deborah of Tampa, FL, Brad Hicks and his wife Kerry of Bradenton, FL; his daughter, Karen Hicks of Williamsburg, VA; five grandchildren: Melanie Christ and her husband John, Chana Ramdath and her husband Anthony, Jessica Schwaller and her husband Chris, Christi Davis and her husband George, Jasen Hicks and his wife MaryJane; seven great-grandchildren: Wyatt Christ, Ava Ramdath, Harlan Ramdath, Lorelai Schwaller, Quade Davis, Lyla Davis and Jakob Hicks.
The Hicks family would like to extend their warmest thanks to William’s neighbors, Albert, Judy, Tom and Janie for all the love, care and support they showed to him over the years. Private interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
