Mildred Viola Schutz, 93, of Lecanto, FL, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2016 while under hospice care in her home at Brentwood Assisted Living, Lecanto, FL. Mildred was born on February 24, 1922 in Greenville, IL to the late Wilbur and Bertha (Wilderman) Stanton.
She proudly served her country in the United States Army Air Corp in World War II; was a graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson University, Madison, NJ and worked for Marine Colloids (Springfield, NJ) and Madis Labs (Hackensack, NJ) before her retirement. In 1997, Mildred relocated from Saddle Brook, NJ to Citrus County, FL. A woman of faith, she was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church, Lecanto.
Mildred loved the great outdoors and spent much of her time gardening, hiking, camping and canoeing. She even had the opportunity to hike and camp in Europe. Mildred was a member of the Union County (NJ) Hiking Club, the Sierra Club, and the Appalachian Mountain Club. She loved to travel and enjoyed road trips and train trips as often as possible. Since moving to Citrus County, Mildred was involved with the sewing circle and other activities in her church, and volunteered at the hospice thrift store.
Those left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory are her daughter, Carolyn Joyce Wertz of Hernando, FL; stepdaughter, Nancy Makowski of Phillipsburg, NJ; granddaughter, Susan Makowski of Annandale, NJ; brother, Floyd Stanton of Hillsboro, IL; sister-in-law, Jan Evans of Fairview Heights, IL. and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Schutz; grandaughter, Christina Richards, and five siblings
The family invites friends to a Celebration of Life planned for Saturday, March 12, 2016, 11 am, at Faith Lutheran Church, Lecanto, with Pastor Stephen Lane officiating.
