Nellie Logarta Obial of Hernando, Florida – formerly from Cincinnati, Ohio entered Heaven’s Gate on February 15, 2016. She was born in Cebu, Philippines November 24, 1927 and lived a long happy life with her husband of 60 years, Gaudencio “Obie” Obial. She grew up in the Philippines surrounded by a large loving family and was a teacher. Upon marrying Obie, they moved to Cincinnati, Ohio to begin their family together. Her magnetic personality attracted many friends and she quickly became an active member of their community. A consummate mother and homemaker, Nellie was an excellent cook and enjoyed entertaining friends and family. She was the Chairwoman of the American Medical Association – Education Research Fund, member of the Auxillary to the Cincinnati Academy of Medicine as well as the American Philippine Physicians Association of Greater Cincinnati and a lifelong member of the National Republican Party. Upon retirement in Florida, Nellie and Obie traveled extensively and had many unique stories to share. She was devoted to her prayer community and was actively involved with her church. Nellie enjoyed cooking, shopping, gardening and visiting with friends and family. Nellie is survived by her loving husband Gaudencio, son Dennis Obial and his wife Ashley (Lehman), daughters Renee Obial and Leah Obial Gates and her husband Andrew, and grandsons Jonathan Obial and Alec Gates. The family will greet friends from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home (3075 S. Florida Avenue, Inverness, Florida 34450). A funeral mass celebrating her life will be offered at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church (6 Roosevelt Blvd., Beverly Hills, Florida 34465) on February 19, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent in the name of Nellie Obial to the Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast.
