Bonnie June Mank, age 63, of Floral City, Florida, died February 2, 2016 surrounded by her loving family and while under the excellent care of Sturgill Hospice Care in Brooksville, FL. Bonnie was born in Champaign, IL on October 12, 1952 to the late Winston Cleveland and Loleta June (Smith) Mank.
Throughout her life, Bonnie wore many hats, both personally and professionally. She was an amazing mother, “Grandmother of the Century” and a loving and devoted wife and friend. Bonnie was extremely intelligent, curious, and creative. She spent a lot of her free time discovering new and different outlets for her creative energy, including pottery, stained glass. glass blowing, bead work, decorating and gardening, to name a few.
Professionally she had been a nurse, a potter, worked in IT and most recently she was employed as an electrical / instrument designer for the oil industry in Northern Alaska. Bonnie truly loved her job and the many friends she made on the Northern Slope. As a lifelong Christian, she found a home at the First Baptist Church of Floral City. Her faith and new found friends helped her to deal with many of the struggles she would encounter battling pancreatic cancer over the last year of her life.
To Bonnie, life was an adventure. She always wanted to travel to new places and learn new things. She loved to read, make art, snuggle kitties, play with her grandsons, and ride on the back of her husband’s Harley.
She is survived by those who will miss her dearly: her loving husband, Steve Turney of Floral City, FL; son Benjamin Mank, his wife Stacey Mank and their children Elias and Wesley Mank of South East Alaska; and daughter, Sierra Dawkins of Denver, Colorado. As well as many dear friends in Timber Pines, Floral City and the North Slope.
The Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory of Inverness, FL is assisting the family with private arrangements.
