JOSEPH M. GIGLIOTTI, 74, Inverness, FL, died January 6, 2016 surrounded by his loving family while under the care of the staff of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast. Joseph was born on September 27, 1941 in Pittsburgh, PA. to Michael Angelo and Pauline (Lesante) Gigliotti.

He served his country in the United States Army as a Paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne. He was employed for much of his life as a mechanic for the trucking industry however, he was truly a “jack-of-all-trades” and not afraid to try his hand at many different business ventures.

In his lifetime, Joseph owned several restaurants, a trucking company, and a Bed and Breakfast. He had also been a hair stylist, realtor, commercial driving and scuba diving instructor, a tour bus driver throughout the United States including Alaska, and finally a salesman. He also served two 18 month tours in Iraq as a civilian contractor working as a mechanic and driving trucks in convoys, where at times he was under fire and exposed to IED’s. Joseph was a world traveler exploring Europe, Russia, China, Africa and Central America.

In his spare time, Joseph enjoyed tinkering with boats and motors. He also enjoyed jet skiing, fishing and cooking. Joseph loved the water and has been a resident of Inverness for the past ten years. At the time of his passing, Joseph was working on his autobiography of his life’s incredible experiences.

Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are Agnes Kearns, his faithful companion and significant other for almost six years; his mother, Pauline Ida Gigliotti of Oxford, FL; three sons, Joseph (Stacia) Gigliotti of Pueblo, CO, Darin (Jessica) Gigliotti of Pueblo, CO and Vincent (Natalie) Gigliotti of Las Vegas, NV; one brother, Dr. Michael (Colleen) Gigliotti of Murrysville, PA; two sisters, Catherine Gigliotti of Summerfield, FL and Marlene (Richard) Schirra of Murrysville, PA; four nieces, Diana, Jennifer, Laura, and Heather; three nephews, Justin, Troy, and Raymond; fourteen grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Frederick Gigliotti.

A memorial service to honor Joseph’s life is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 12 at The Chas E. Davis Funeral Home. Father Tim Cummings of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church will officiate. A graveside service with full Military Honors rendered by Inverness VFW post #4337 will take place following the service at Florida National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. The family will receive friends in visitation at the funeral home beginning at 9:00 a.m. until the hour of the service.
