Joyce Elizabeth Burns, 89, Inverness, went to be with her Lord December 6, 2015 at Highland Place ALF under the loving care if the staff and Hospice of Citrus & The Nature Coast. Joyce was born July 16, 1926 in New Haven, CT to the late George and Mary Tolman.
She was a registered nurse in New Haven prior to moving to Florida in 1953. She was a Forensic Investigator at the Dade County Medical Examiner’s Office, retiring in 1966. Shortly after retirement, she moved to Inverness. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Inverness, a loving wife, and mother.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Thomas Michael Burns (Janine) of Inverness and daughter, Donna Nelson (Ralph), believed to reside in South Florida. She has 2 grandsons, Derek Hendricks (Darcie) of Miami, FL and Darren Hendricks (Lauren) of Conyers, GA; 2 great grandchildren, Kaden and Logan Hendricks.
In addition to her parents, brother, George Tolman, and husband, Thomas Edward Burns, she was predeceased by two daughters, Bonnie Moore (Tris) of Miami and Sheri Whidden (Bradley) of St. Marys, GA.
Joyce was a very private person and it was her expressed wish that she be remembered by her friends just as she was in life. She requested that there be no formal repose or service.
