William O Garner

William Owen Garner, 80, Inverness, FL, died September 24, 2015 at his residence while under the loving care of his family. William was born on October 16, 1934 in Gideon, MO to the late Orville and Vionne (Smith) Garner.

On October 21, 1954, he married Joan Ryal with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage. 10 years ago, William and Joan relocated to Inverness from Englewood, FL. A Christian by faith, William was a member of the Church of God of Inverness. He was proud to serve the Lord and did so by working for the Salvation Army. This included a mission trip to Haiti and teaching Sunday school for them in Port Charlotte, FL. In his spare time, William enjoyed fishing.

He was very devoted to his family and also enjoyed meeting new people. William never met a stranger and was quite a “talker”. He could carry on a conversation with anyone and genuinely took an interest in others.

In addition to his wife Joan, those left to mourn his passing are his sons, David Garner of Inverness, FL and Donald (Heidi) Garner of Boca Grande, FL; a daughter, Debra (Scott) Johnson of Northport, FL; and sisters, Jinny (Jerry) Heckman of Columbiaville, MI and Roberta Garner of Flynt, MI. He will also be fondly remembered by two grandchildren, Seth Garner and Abby Garner. William was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Garner and one grandchild, Bobby Landon.

The family is being assisted with private arrangements through the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness. A celebration of life memorial service will take place in Englewood, FL at a later date.
