HORTENSE “JOAN” HOLLAND, age 72, Lecanto, passed away July 30, 2015 under the loving care of the wonderful staff at Citrus Hills Health and Rehab and Hospice of Citrus and Nature Coast. Joan was a loving sister, a gentle soul and a friend to everyone she met. She truly loved animals especially dogs. She was a second mom to her nephews who lived near her and was happy to entertain all the young friends and relatives who visited. Joan was born on Jan 22, 1943 in Queens, NY to Hortense M. Harmon and Edwin Z. Holland, who both predeceased her in 2002. She was a clerk for the Federal Government in Washington, DC before she moved to Inverness with her parents in 1978 and went to work as a mail clerk at Citrus Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 2000. Joan is survived by her siblings Helen Shanklin (Donald deceased 09/30/2014), Granbury, TX, Dr. Edwin Holland (Vickery) Inverness, FL, and M. Patty Noyes (Karl, Jr.) Clarksburg, MD; 6 nephews: Jim Shanklin, Joe Shanklin, John Shanklin, Mike Holland, Steve Holland, Karl Noyes, III and two nieces: Julie Shanklin Phillips and Kathleen Noyes Gwinn and 15 great-nephews and nieces. Cremation will take place at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home With Crematory. A memorial service is planned at a later date at Citrus Hills Health and Rehab in Lecanto.
