James Joseph Divis, Jr., 81, Inverness passed away July 26, 2015 at the Citrus Hills Health & Rehab Center. Mr Divis was born in Cleveland, OH on March 25, 1934 to the late James and Emily (Witucky) Divis and came to Inverness in 1996 from Solon, OH. He was retired as the Chief of Detectives for the Cleveland Heights Police Dept with 26 years of service and served our country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of American Legion Post 233 of Cleveland and the FBI Academy Associates.
Left to mourn his loss is his wife of 59 years, Beverly (McSweeney) Divis; 4 children, James J. Divis, III of Solon, OH; Thomas M. Divis, Streetsboro, OH; John C. Divis, Mooresville, NC; Kelly Ann Lilley, Allen, TX; 2 brothers, Thomas and Bernard Divis; 2 sisters, “Tish” Bush and Joan Bender; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gregory.
Graveside military services will be conducted Friday, July 31, 2015 at 2:30 PM from Florida National Cemetery with Deacon Fred Geil and Marine Corps League Citrus Detachment # 819 officiating. There will be no calling hours. The procession will leave the Chas E Davis Funeral Home at 1:30 PM.
