Rhoda Walls

RHODA WALLS passed softly and peacefully into the very early morning, Sunday April 26th, 2015 in Citrus Memorial Hospital after her courageous battle with lung cancer and other illnesses. She was born May 8, 1938 in Cranston, Rhode Island to Raymond and Margaret (Allan) Morin, and later becoming the step-daughter of Otis Slone of West Virginia. She married Alan Walls April 8, 1957 in Chesapeake, Maryland where soon after they started their family. They had four daughters Erica, Melissa, Ingrid and Kristen. For 13 years, Rhoda was a secretary for the Board of Education in Newark, Delaware and 15 years as a secretary at Margaret Sterck School for the Hearing Impaired, where signing became her second language. In 1990, Rhoda not only designed the Family Support Program for the Delaware Air National Guard, Operation Desert Storm, which helped families while the troops were deployed, but she also put that program to work. After retiring in 1991, she and her husband Alan made Floral City their permanent home in 1995. Rhoda loved crafting, and her creativity was endless spanning from stained glass to Quilling, an ancient forgotten Japanese paper art, along with many other artistic abilities, which she donated to the Masonic Home of Saint Petersburg for their retail store, which helped support the Masonic Home. Rhoda is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Alan Walls of Floral City, their daughters, Erica Horne of St. Thomas US Virgin Islands, Ingrid with her husband Todd Brake of Floral City, and her grandson Alex Berta of Clarksville, TN. In lieu of flowers memorials are being accepted by the Masonic Home of St. Petersburg, 3201 1st Street NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33704. Following cremation, burial will follow at a later date in Florida National Cemetery. Chas E. Davis Funeral Home With Crematory is assisting the family.
