Sadly, Dr. Ricardo A. Patron, age 83, passed away at home surrounded by his family in Hernando, Florida on Monday, April 6th, 2015.
Ricardo was born on October 10, 1931 in Dolores, Quezon, Philippines to Maximo and Claudia Patron. He was the second eldest to brothers Manuel, Andres & Amador and sisters Dolores & Veneranda. He attended Dolores Elementary School, Lucena Provincial High School, and San Pablo Colleges. He then graduated from Far Eastern University Medical School in 1957, performing residency and fellowships at Mercy Hospital and Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland. Ricardo’s proudest achievement was bringing his family to the United States. He lovingly shared opportunities available in the United States by helping his siblings and their families immigrate to the United States.
His family journey began on Guam as a founding physician for Guam Medical Clinic from 1967 to 1979. He then practiced in Manhattan, KS, El Dorado, KS and Liberal, KS before settling in Hernando, FL upon retirement from OB-GYN Associates of Southwest Kansas in June 2000. As skilled of a physician as he was, he was a better father. Along with his wife Norma, he taught their children the value of hard work and the importance of family. Fun memories of the weekend beach outings, of traveling away from Guam to the Philippines, the United States and to Europe bring smiles and laughs.
He was dearly loved by all who knew him and lovingly called “Carding” and “Dad” to his many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and godchildren. The heart of his pit bull retriever mix, Twinkle, will be forever broken. As the center and soul of his family he will be missed terribly, yet deep in our hearts we know that he will always be there to watch over and guide us through our journeys ahead.
Ricardo is survived by his beloved wife, Norma, his children, Ricardo (Kathy), Rufino (Amanda), Roberto, Romeo and Claudia “Rosaley” (Ronde’), grandchildren, Mika, Nathan, Matthew, Neal, Olivia, Benjamin, Sophia, Yammile and Justyce; siblings, Andres (Feliciana), Veneranda, Amador (Erlinda), his godchildren, nieces, nephews and Twinkle. He is preceded in death by Maximo and Claudia Patron, Leyte R. Patron, Manuel Patron and Dolores Patron.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 10:00 AM from St. Scholastica Catholic Church with Fr. Jose Tejada, celebrant. Visitation will be on Friday from 2-5PM at the Chas E Davis Funeral Home where there will be a Wake Vigil Service offered at 4:30 PM.
