GARRETT T. CUGELL, age 81, died on Good Friday, April 3, 2015 at Shands at UF, surrounded by his loving family. Gary was born on November 2, 1933 in Brooklyn, NY to the late Edward T. and Catherine (Gallagher) Cugell. He proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1957-1962. Gary was a New York City Policeman, retiring after 30 years of service with the rank of Sergeant. A man who truly loved life, he delighted in spending time with his family and socializing with friends. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed dancing with his wife and girls, his summer home at Friends Lake in the Adirondacks, taking cruises and swimming in the ocean. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Elks Lodge and Knights of Columbus. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 57 years, Sheila Cugell; daughters Mary (George) Dickinson, Honeoye Falls, NY; Patricia (John) Savino, Rochester, NY, Eileen Cugell (Dave Tansek), Bradenton, FL, Joan Cugell, Bethesda, MD, Sheila “Bunny” (Paul) Lewis, Windsor, CT, Catherine Cugell (Richard Chau), New York, NY, Peggy Cugell, Brookfield, CT; grandchildren Garrett (Hilary) Dickinson, Meaghan Dickinson, Christopher Dickinson, Matthew Savino, Daniel Lewis, Catie Lewis, Abbie Lewis, Isabelle Chau, Alexandra Chau; his sister Adrienne (Robert) Sommer, Lancaster, PA; his brother Edward (Patricia) Cugell, Madison, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Burial will follow with military honors at Florida National Cemetery. The family invites friends to join them in visitation from 4-6 PM on Wednesday at Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory. Please consider donations in Garrett’s memory to Our Lady of Fatima Helping Hands Ministry in lieu of flowers.
