Edward Joseph Carpenter, age 82, of Inverness, FL passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 while under the care of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, Lecanto. Edward was born on October 17, 1934 in Fort Wayne, IN to the late Abel and Dessie (Skinner) Carpenter.
He was a Salesman for the Insurance Industry throughout his life. In September 1983 Edward married Gayle Wehrung Baker with whom he shared 33 years of marriage. They made Citrus County their home 12 years ago after relocating from Indiana. A Christian by faith, Edward attended worship services and was a Church Elder at the Shepherd’s Way Cowboy Church in Lecanto.
After retirement, Edward and Gayle traveled throughout the country in their camper and referred to themselves as “work campers”. They would work at the various campsites in which they were staying for a month at a time before moving on to the next campground and adventure. Edward was an avid basketball fan and truly loved the game. He also enjoyed watching college football and loved playing golf for many years until his health no longer allowed him to hit the links.
In addition to his loving wife Gayle, those left to mourn Edward’s passing are his sons: Ed Carpenter, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Massillon, OH, Tony Carpenter of Brewster, OH; daughters: Mary Schoeppner and her husband Mike of Tampa, FL, Sheri Tucker and her husband Rick of Carrollton, OH, Carrie Brown and her husband Stu of Nettie, W.V., Tracy Williams and her husband Jermaine of Massillon, OH; stepson, Glenn Baker of Brooksville, FL; 20 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A Celebration of Edward’s life is planned for Friday, May 26, 2017 at 3:00 PM from the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Pastor Dave Shirkey of the Shepherd’s Way Cowboy Church of Lecanto officiating. Friends are invited to join the family in visitation beginning at 2:00 PM until the hour of service.
