FRANCIS “FRANK” C. SELLTITZ, age 96, Inverness, died February 22, 2015 at the Hospice Care Unit at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Frank was born on January 7, 1919 in Queens, NY to the late Francis A. and Wanda (Gabriel) Selltitz. He served our country honorable in the United States Navy during WWII as a radar technician, serving aboard the U.S.S. Concord, As part of the Task Force 94, the Concord took part in several raids against Japanese shipping in the Bering Sea and also the Sea of Okhotsk and aginast bases on the Kuril Islands (both located northeast of Japan) until the end of the war, including one engagement during which 16 enemy ships were sunk. His brother also served in the Navy, Robert during the Invasion of Normandy and his Uncles Alex in WWI and WWII in Pearl Harbor and Robert in WWI and as a Merchant Marine in WWII. In the Selltitz family, it was said that if you did not join the Navy, you would get kicked out of the family and Frank certainly did his part! After the end of the war, Frank went on to a career as a platemaker in the press room of several newspapers, including such publications as the New York Journal American, the New York Times, the Tampa Tribune and the Houston Chronicle. Frank was a member of the American Legion, VFW Post #4337 of Inverness, 32nd degree Mason, Scottish Rite and Shriner. He enjoyed playing poker, gardening and fishing and served as a crossing guard for Hernando Elementary School. Left to cherish his memory is his son Kenneth Selltitz, Amityville, NY, daughter Janice (George) Kennedy, Geensboro, NC, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys (Harrison) Selltitz. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 12:00 Noon at Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory. The family will receive friends in visitation from 11:00 AM until the hour of service. Burial will follow with military honors at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
