Edward (Ed) Morgan Voelker, II, age 76, passed away on February 2, 2015 under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. Edward was born on August 3, 1938 in Springfield, MA to the late Edward Morgan and Jane Eleanor Voelker. His education included Cushing Academy, Ashburnham, MA, Tufts University (BA), Medford, MA and the Air Command and Staff College, Maxwell, AL. Upon graduation from Tufts University in 1959, Lt. Col. Voelker was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and entered active duty at Amarillo, Air Force Base, TX. Seven years of assignments with Air Defense Command Fighter Interceptor Squadrons were followed by duty with 7th Air Force headquarters at Ton Son Nhut Air Base, Vietnam (May 1967-May 1968) and then to the 9th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing (SR-71) at Beale Air Force Base (AFB) CA. Then following an assignment with Warner Robins Air Material Area at Warner Robins AFB, GA he was assigned as an inspector with the Air Force Inspector General’s Office in San Bernardino, CA visting bases throughout the United States, Europe and the Far East. He was selected to attend and completed the Air Command and Staff College and after graduating was assigned to Headquarters 4th Allied Tactical Air Force (NATO) at Ramstein AB, Germany. Following assignments were as Commander 401st Tactical Fighter Wing Supply Squadron at Torrejon AB, Spain and Chief of various Logistics Divisions at Headquarters United States Air Force, Europe at Ramstein, AB, Germany. During his USAF career as a Supply Operations Officer, Acquisition Contracting Officer and Supply Management Staff Officer, Lt. Col. Voelker earned many awards including the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Vietnam Service Medal, AF Presidential Unit Citation and AF Outstanding Unit Award. After retiring from the United States Air Force in 1987 he was the purchasing agent for the Merchants National Bank and Trust Company in Frankfurt, Germany until returning to Florida in 2001. After private ceremonies, interment will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Lt. Col. Voelker’s final wishes were that his friends consider donating to local organizations that support the United States active duty military, military veterans and their families. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 50 years, Charlotte E. Voelker; his daughter Gabriele Helene Voelker (Eric Hamm); . his son Edward Morgan Voelker, III (Liberty Hawkins); his sister Constance Blakley (Larry); seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory is assisting the family with arrangements.
