Harold “Hub” Peter Kurth passed away on Monday, January 12, 2015 at Superior Residences in Lecanto, Florida. Harold was born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. He graduated from Madison East High School. He volunteered for the military and after basic training was sent to the South Pacific where he was assigned to the 37th Division of the Ohio National Guard. He served as the company scout and earned, among others, the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
Harold was a member of the Madison, WI police department for nine years, mostly as a hit-and-run investigator. In 1957 he resigned from the police department to work as an investigator for Wisconsin Farm Bureau as Property Claims Manager.
Harold enjoyed working with wood. He made beautiful furniture as well as many carvings. He was a life member of the Aaron Weaver Chapter 776 of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
Harold was married to Evelyn Larvick in 1948 and together they had four children: Linda Newton (Tom); Terry Kurth (Kathleen); Rhonda Lewis (John) and Brian (Wade Fickler), and 4 step children He has 8 Grandchildren 11 Step Grandchildren; 10 Great Grandchildren and 3 step Great Grandchildren. In addition to these, 3 brothers and 2 sisters and his wife, Gretchen, and many nieces and nephews further survive him. His first wife, Evelyn, his parents, one brother and 2 sisters preceded him in death.
Harold’s wife Evelyn, passed away in 1990. In 1994 he married Gretchen Beckett. He and Gretchen moved to Arbor Lakes in Hernando, Florida in 1997. Harold will be buried in Madison, WI next to his first wife, Evelyn.
