JAMES “BYRON” CORBIN, age 78, Lecanto, passed on December 30, 2014 under the care of HPH Hospice and surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness. Byron was born on January 26, 1936 in Lake Wales, FL to the late Leslie Vernoy and Dorothy Louise (Jones) Corbin. He married Carol Fay Mercer on December 16, 1970 in Lehigh Acres, FL. He served our country in the United States Army from June 11, 1957 through May 31, 1960 and then continued to serve in the U.S. Army Reserves for three years following his active duty. His life’s work was spent with Publix Supermarket. He was proud to be part of the Publix Supermarket’s growth and expansion as a store manager. He retired after 32 years of service due to a severe back injury in 1978 for which he underwent a total of five surgeries. He was never out of pain and was unable to do what he most enjoyed. He loved to go out and fish and was an avid golfer. He loved to learn and collect coins and stamps. He was also part of a group of men who invested in commercial land in Ft. Myers. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 44 years, Carol Fay Corbin, Lecanto; his daughter Paula Potts, St. Petersburg; his son Jimmy Corbin, St. Petersburg, FL, daughter Lori A. Corbin and her fiance Bobby Masters, Lecanto; a brother Leslie B. Corbin and his wife Myrna, Palatka, FL; grandchildren Chris, Alisha, James and Candice and two great-grandchildren Nathan and Cami. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred. A funeral tribute and celebration of Byron’s life will be held on Monday, January 5, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory. Burial will follow with military honors at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. The family will receive friends in visitation from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service. Memorial donations in Byron’s memory are requested to HPH Hospice Foundation, Citrus County Office, 3545 N. Lecanto Hwy, Beverly Hills, FL 34465 or the charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
