Donald A. Loger, 86, of Inverness, Florida passed away December 1, 2014 at HPH Hospice in Lecanto, Florida. He was born on January 30, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois to the late George and Mary (Kinneally) Loger and arrived in this area in 1989 coming from Largo, Florida; previously from Walden, NY. Donald was a retired Homicide Detective for the New York City Police Dept., and a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines, U.S. Marine Corps, the U.S. Navy as Boatswain Mate serving with Adm. Pride. He served his country honorably during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Donald was a lifetime member of the U.S.S. Leyte (CV-32) Association and plank owner, the U.S. Seagoing Marine Association, and NARLEO. His other memberships include the American Merchant Marine Veterans, Ocala Chapter, The American Legion Post #155, Crystal River, FL, and the Citrus County 10-13 Club. Donald was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Loger in 2004, and a daughter, Deborah McQuillin in 1997. Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, Karen Loger of Inverness. Other survivors include daughter Lynn (Charlie) Whitehouse of Wallkill NY; son Peter Loger of Cornwall, NY; step-daughter Jacqueline (Mike) Andriuolo of Citrus Springs, FL; granddaughter Amanda Whitehouse; grandsons Charles Whitehouse and Michael McQuillin; and 2 step-grandsons, Michael and Jonathon Andriuolo. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service is scheduled for Monday, 3:00 P.M. at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, with the family receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior. Interment will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Inverness.
