Maynard Jack Hills, age 89, Floral City, died June 17, 2015 at his residence surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice of Citrus and Nature Coast. Maynard was born on June 12, 1926 in Maine, NY to the late Cecile and Mildred (Corwin) Hills. He proudly served our country in the United States Army during WWII in the 1st Calvary, 8th mounted regiment. His group was one of the last to train on horseback in Fort Riley, Kansas in 1945 after which he went to Japan with the occupied forces. Maynard was employed by Dover Industries for over ten years, a machine manufacturing business as a tool and die maker. He was also the owner/operator of his own sawmill and was a talented and gifted woodworker. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 68 years, Elizabeth “Betty” (Overlander) Hills. He was a loving father of six children, Terry (Virginia) Hills, Owego, NY, Mark (Sharon) Hills, Myrtle Beach, SC, Brian Hills, Owego, NY, Christine (Bo) Campbell, Endwell, NY, Kathy LaPlante, Morrilton, AR and Michael (Briana) Hills, Floral City; 13 grandchildren, Nicholas (Amber) Hills, Nathan Hills, Amanda Middaugh, Kelly and Kent Campbell, Shannon (Michael) Niles, Stephanie, Tyler and Ryan Hills, Joshua (April) Brown, Jason and Jared Brown and Sean Patterson and 5 great-grandchildren, Hailie Bates, Maddox Hills, Wyatt and Cole Niles and the love of his life, Caitlyn Hills; sister-in-law Sandra Hills of NC, brother-in-law Bob (Jeanne) Overlander of Inverness and several nieces, nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his brother Wayne Hills and sisters Lois Hills and Doris Scovell. A Funeral Service of Remembrance will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory. Burial will follow with military honors at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. The family will greet friends in visitation from 12:00 Noon until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, send memorial donations in Maynard’s name to Wounded Warrior Project at P.O.
