Woodrow L Pitre

Woodrow Lee Pitre, Phd., 75, Inverness, died July 24, 2015 in Arbor Trail Health and Rehab Center. Dr. Pitre was born in New Orleans, LA on Dec 27, 1939 to Woodrow W. and Virginia Bassett Pitre and moved to this area in 1989 from Port St. Lucie, FL. He was a retired municipal zoning and planning administrator.
During his lifetime, Dr. Pitre taught at several universities: Calhoun State Junior College, Rio Grand College, Indiana University Purdue University of Indianapolis (UPUI), Barry University, Sumpter Correctional, finally retiring from Withlacoochee Technical College in Inverness. He was a Naval and Air Force veteran and active member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church. Other affiliations include the Florida Democratic Party, Loyal Order of Moose, Lions Club, and Past President of the Florida Planning and Zoning Commission.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice (Stoelting) Pitre of Inverness, 2 children, Eric Pitre and his wife, April of Tampa; Virginia “Ginger” Roberge and husband, Sylvain of Titusville, FL; 1 sister, Jeanne Soileau, New Iberia, LA; 2 grandchildren, Hannah Vossen and Sophia Pitre.

Dr. Pitre’s life will be celebrated Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 3:00 PM from Chas E Davis Funeral Home with Mrs Diane Kahler and John Chiappetta officiating. Following cremation, burial will follow in Florida National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home from 2:00 PM until the hour of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are being accepted by Hospice of Citrus County as well as Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church.
