Don H Pound

Don Hampton Pound, 87, of Inverness, Florida passed away October 25 2014 under the care of Hospice of Citrus County, Inverness. He was born in Springdale, AR, on April 22, 1927 to the late John Hampton and Nettie Mae (Olinger) Pound. Don was a retired Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army, and served his country honorably in WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam. He also taught school for 10 years at St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Parsons, KS, and was a Purchasing Officer for 8 years at Parsons State Hospital and Training Center. Don was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness, and the Knights of Columbus. He was a part of “one special small group” of Bill W.  Don enjoyed watching sports, especially his beloved Kansas State Wildcats. He loved animals, was an avid newspaper reader, and enjoyed discussing current events and history. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine “Kay” (Clements) Pound and nine siblings. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Rebecca Pound. Other survivors include children Patrick J. (Theresa) Pound of Tacoma, WA; Mike (Lee) Pound of Carthage, MO; Mark H. Pound of Parsons, KS; Matthew D. Pound, Giard, KS; Brent E. (Kathryn) Walker of Tucson, AZ; Mary Ann Murphy of Emporia, KS; Kathleen E. “Kate” (John) Dawson of Washington, D.C.; Christine A. “Chris” (Tim) Hipsher of Olathe, KS; and Renee D. (Chuck) McHugh of Orlando, FL; Granddaughter Angela McHugh, who resided at the home, in addition to 12 other grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Mass is scheduled for Thursday, 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, with an honor guard service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Citrus County, PO. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL, 34464, or to Helping Hands at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL is assisting the family with arrangements.
