BERNARD FRANCIS HARNEY, Jr., passed away September 23, 2014 in the care of his loving family and Hospice of Citrus County. He was born on January 3, 1942 to the late Bernard F. Harney and Grace Lillis Harney in Manhattan, NY.
Bernie served in the United States Air Force from 1959-1963. He was stationed at Murphy’s Dome, Alaska and Plattsburgh, NY. Bernie graduated from Pace University receiving a Bachelors in accounting. He was payroll manager for the March of Dimes. He was married to his loving wife, Nancy, for 44 years. Upon retiring together to FL, he enjoyed golfing, woodworking, bowling, playing cards and being with his friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus #6168. Mostly Bernie enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Nancy; his son, Bernard F. Harney, III and wife Marilyn, Albany, NY; daughters Elizabeth Ann Skoglund and husband Peter, Land-O’-Lakes, FL, Kerri Marie DeRuyter and husband Matthew, Charlotte, NC; and his four grandchildren Alex and Liam DeRuyter and Lillibeth and Genevieve Skoglund. He is also survived by brothers John Harney of Carmel, NY, Kevin Harney of San Sebastian, FL, Raymond Harney of Mahopac, NY and a sister Regina Jedlicka of Mahopac, NY and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Gerard Harney. Bernie was Catholic and attended Our Lady of Grace Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Beverly Hills. The family will receive friends in visitation on Friday September 26, 2014 from 4-6 PM at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home. Burial will follow at a later date at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. The family requests that all expressions of sympathy take the place in donations to Hospice of Citrus County and Nature Coast, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464 in lieu of flowers.
