Fortunato C Barcelo

Fortunato C. Barcelo, age 77, of Inverness, passed November 15th, 2014 at Ocala Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends. Nato was a kind soul, born April 17th, 1937 in Cebu, Philippine islands. He was the youngest of eight children, born to Cornelio and Eustiqua (Canedo) Barcelo. With an adventurous spirit, he joined the Merchant Marines to see the world and like a sirens song, lady liberty called to Nato so he moved to New York City in 1988. Following his family’s medical lineage, Nato sought work as a nursing assistant at the New Jersey fireman’s home where he met the love of his life, his wife, Janice Barcelo.
In 2004, he retired with his wife to Florida where his unwavering integrity and kind accepting nature quickly made him an intricate member of the Filipine community. Fortunato, not only a loving and deeply devoted husband, is a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. “Nats” smile and the scent of pipe smoke will be deeply missed around the Mah Jong and poker table. Whether in the garden, fishing, watching the Yankees or Nicks, Nato was never far from his faithful and loved dogs, Pippa, Lola and his ever present shadow Rudy.
Left to Cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 18 years, Janice Barcelo; his son Bruce Barcelo (Ida) granddaughter Renzy of Cebu, His daughter Jennifer Bergmann (David) grandsons Jack and Max of New Jersey, his brother “Boy”, sisters Filesa and Nan of Cebu, Marie and Peggy of Arizona, Jody of Georgia, Diane and Elaine of Florida and the entire Filipine family of friends.
A service to celebrate Nato’s life will be held at Chas. E. Davis funeral home on Saturday, November 22nd. The family will receive friends and visitation from 10:00am until the hour of service at 11:00am.
