Charlotte M Avchen-Davis

Charlotte M. Davis Avchen, 71, a native of Carbondale and current resident of Bristow, VA died July 24, 2014, following a courageous battle with cancer. Charlotte was born September 6, 1942 in Carbondale, Illinois to the late Cecil and Jessie (Wiggs) Davis. She grew up in Carbondale, attended local schools and graduated from Carbondale Community High School, Class of 1960. She moved to St Petersburg, FL with her family after graduation and was granted a second diploma from Northeast High School, Class of 1960. Always looking to expand her capabilities , she moved to Miami, FL and joined Eastern Airlines where she was a flight attendant for over 25 years. While in Miami, she married Barney Avchen, a local attorney, who encouraged her to pursue a career in nursing. Charlotte enrolled in the University of Miami and was granted a Bachelor’s Degree in nursing, graduating Cum Laude. In 2000, while snow skiing at her winter home in Vermont, she met her best friend and companion for the past 15 years, John Chalecky. They built a new home in Bristow, VA together and lived there until her passing.

In addition to John, Charlotte is survived by her twin brother, Charles “Butch” Davis and his wife, Lou Ellen of Inverness, FL; her nephew, James Mark Davis and wife Severine and their children, Sarah and Lea’ of Cocoa Beach, FL; and her niece, Charlene Davis Harbourt and husband, Read and their children, Isabella and Elizabeth of Haymarket, VA.

A Celebration of Charlotte’s life will be announced in Bristow, VA at a later date. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home With Crematory of Inverness, Florida is in charge of arrangements.
