Thelma Marguerite Brown, 87, passed away on December 14 2017 in Hernando, Florida. She was born on May 14th, 1930 in Beechhurst, New York to her parents Inga and Laurence Collins.

Married in 1953, Thelma was the beloved wife of Charles Evans Brown for 50 years. He predeceased her in 2003. She is survived by her two daughters Inga Dauphinee of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Greta Jurado of Pembroke Pines, Florida; her son Army Colonel (Retired) Charles Brown of Chester, Virginia; her brother Laurence Collins of Grayling, Michigan; and six grandchildren Lauren, Ryan, Greta, Ingrid, Callie and Christina.

Thelma attended St. Lukes Grammar School in Whitestone, New York; St. Agnes Academic School, College Point, New York from 1944-1948; and Kaupert School in Jamaica, New York. She worked for Mobil Oil Company in Manhattan, New York until her marriage and subsequent move to Wantagh, Long Island, New York in 1953. Thelma returned to work later at Aeroflex Laboratories in Plainview, New York. In 1979, her and her family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina for 26 years. She worked at Sears and retired after 12 years of dedicated customer service. Upon her husband’s death, Thelma moved to Citrus Hills, Canterbury Lakes, Hernando, Florida in 2005. Thelma had great fondness for her family and friends, animals (most notably cats) and birds, bridge, cooking, golf, Rachmaninov and Pavarotti, white wine, and humor.

Friends are invited to join Thelma’s family at the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home, 3075 S. Florida Avenue, Inverness, FL 34450 on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 9:00 AM for viewing and visitation. The funeral procession will leave from the funeral home at 9:45 AM for The Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM from Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 550 US-41, Inverness, FL 34450, with Father Claudius Mganga, Celebrant. Following the Mass, Thelma will be laid to rest with her husband, Charles, at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513, at 11:30 AM. The family asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Society of Citrus County, FL. P.O. Box 2283 Inverness, FL in honor of Thelma to make the animal’s lives better.
