Barbara (Bobbie) Hobby, nee Callen, devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother & great-grandmother passed away in her home, surrounded by family and under the care of HPH Hospice, on June 15, 2015. Bobbie was born in Windber, Pennsylvania on June 9, 1933 to Walter E. & Mildred (Ringler) Callen. She graduated from West Chester University, Pennsylvania. Bobbie taught in elementary schools for 25 years in Puerto Rico, the Philippines & in several states. She married Jesse T. Hobby Jr., USAF on September 2, 1956 & celebrated 43 years of marriage until his death in 2000. Bobbie was very happy to be a military wife & enjoyed traveling with her family in many parts of the world. She & her family retired in 1978 in Inverness, FL., where she taught at Inverness Middle School for 11 more years. She retired from teaching in 1989. She loved the beach & was an active swimmer & instructor for many years. She enjoyed playing board games, swimming, sewing & crocheting for her family. The most important thing in her life was her family. Church was a special joy in her life where she was very active for the last 25+ years of her life. She was a charter member of Cornerstone Baptist and served as Clerk, office volunteer, Bereavement Team chairman, sang in the church choir, & directed the music for children’s choir & Vacation Bible School for many years. The past several years she loved welcoming and rocking babies in the church nursery. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter E. & Mildred A. Callen; special mother-in-law, Ruby Goings; husband, Jesse T. Hobby Jr., and sister, Susan B. Ruben. She is survived by her daughters: Becki (Tim) Neely of Crystal River, FL; Susan (Mark), Helton of Vacaville, CA; & Trish (Carl) King of Archer, FL; and her son, Kenneth J. Hobby, of Mt. Home, ID., Grandchildren: Katie, Jennifer (Louis), Kimmy, Michael, Zachary, Jessi, CJ (Angela), Timmy, Aaron, Jeremie, Matthew and Nathan (Tabby), & great-grandchildren, Eli, Hannah Ruby, Amelia Grace, Austin, Colin, Rhiannon and Haydn. She is also survived by her brother, Jerry K.(Doris) Callen of Melbourne, FL; brother-in-law, Edward Ruben of St. Augustine; sister-in-law, Faye Floyd of Birmingham, AL; & sister-in-law, Pat Stein of St. Petersburg, FL & their families. The celebration of her life will take place on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at at 11:30 AM at Cornerstone Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Kell officiating. The family invites friends to join them for visitation from 10:30 until the hour of service. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Donations may be made in her memory to HPH Hospice or Cornerstone Baptist Church.
