FRANCES “FRAN” MARIE GLASS POPKO, age 97, Floral City, died July 30, 2015 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Frances was born on September 12, 1917 in Ridgway, PA to the late Lawrence and Emma (Wittman) Glass. Frances moved to St. Mary’s, PA where she graduated from St. Mary’s High School. She graduated from Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing located in Detroit, MI in 1939. She went on to spend her lifetime caring for and educating patients and their families with her nursing skills. She was employed by Mercy Hospital in Miami as head nurse and then served as inservice instructor and finally as supervisor of nursing. She became school nurse at the American International School in Kabul Afghanistan, where her husband was stationed with Pan American Airlines, as communications instructor to the Ariana Afghan Airlines personnel for nine years. She and her husband retired to the Floral City/Oak Forest area and she was active with the Floral City Homemakers and Historical Society as well as parishoner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church . Frances also served on the reception and welcoming committee of the Oak Forest Homeowners Association. She was employed by Citrus County Family and Community Educators. Left to treasure her memory is her son Edward S. Popko III and his wife Geraldine, Woodstock, NY; her daughters Nora Jane Popko, Orlando and Mary Ellen Popko, Winter Garden; grandchildren Edward Popko III and Captain Gerald B. Popko. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward S. Popko, both of her sisters Dorothy Timmons and Julia Wanner and her brother Norman Glass. Friends are invited to share their memories of her life at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 7, 2015 at 3:00 PM.
