VERNON EARL METTS, SR. age 92, Inverness, died January 13, 2013 at Nature Coast Lodge. Vernon was born on May 12, 1920 in Lisbon, OH to the late Marion and Bertha (Parsons) Metts. He served our country in the United States Army during WWII in Okinawa and the Asiatic Pacific Theatre. Vernon was the owner/operator of Auto Truck Service, Inc. in Lake Milton, OH for many years. He was a member of Argus Masonic Lodge #545 of Canfield, OH and was a member of the Ohio Highway Patrol Auxillary, serving for over 19 years. Upon relocation to this area in 1981 from Canfield, he became a member of VFW #4337 of Inverness and was a member of St. Anne\’s Episcopal Church in Crystal River. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Vernon E. Metts, Jr. OH, Harold J. (Ruth) Metts, Hernando, Gary P. Metts, Ohio and his daughter Marie E. Ebert, Kansas City, MO; stepdaughters Sandy Amicona, Lakeland, FL and Dorothy Gergens, CA, 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Marie Metts on 11/29/2009 as well as his two sisters, Vangel and Irma. A Funeral Tribute for Vernon will be held on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Florida National Cemetery with military honors. The family requests donations to Hospice of Citrus County, P.O. Box 641270, Beverly Hills, FL 34464 in lieu of flowers.
