Marlene Tobin

Marlene Tobin, of Inverness, passed away peacefully at her home, under the loving care of her family and Hospice.

Marlene was born on June 30, 1960 in New York, New York, to Frederick and Maria Alt, one of three daughters.

Marlene met James J. “Jim” Tobin while they were both student athletes at Long Island University in Brooklyn, New York, and they married in 1985. They moved to Inverness in 1990 from New York to raise their family in a small town.

Marlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, teacher, coach, and friend. She worked for the Citrus County School Board for many years, where she made a lasting impact on the students, athletes, families, and colleagues who were fortunate to know her.

Marlene enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family, vacationing with her friends, and being by the water, whether at the beach, on a trip to Rainbow River or Cedar Key, or out fishing. She was a lifelong athlete, having competed in college as a Division I gymnast, and she enjoyed an active lifestyle running races, both casually and competitively, often with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Maria Alt.

Those left to cherish Marlene’s memory are her adoring husband of 41 years, Jim Tobin of Inverness; her devoted sons, Brett Tobin of Inverness, Bryan Tobin and his wife Mikayla of Jacksonville, and Kyle Tobin and his wife Samantha of Crystal River; her sisters, Carolyn Quinn and Nancy Ploutz; her stepmother, Nora Alt, and her loving dog, Ellie.

Marlene’s family will receive friends on Sunday, June 14th, and Monday, June 15th, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home in Inverness. There will be a wake service offered on Monday at 6:30 PM.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness on June 16th at 10:00 AM with Father Mike Suszynski officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Inverness.
