Janice Elizabeth Barmore, age 95, a resident of Inverness for the past eight years, died at Vitas Hospice in Lecanto, FL on January 15, 2026. Born in Jamestown, NY, she was the daughter of the late Everett and Gertrude (Lawson) Swanson. She grew up in Kimball Stand, NY on the family farm and helping in the store.
Janice graduated from CVCS in 1948. She married her husband, Verland in 1950. Her first job was working for the telephone company as an operator. In 1966, she and Verland purchased the White Horse restaurant in Cassadaga, New York. Then they sold the restaurant and started Gay Mark Tire and Wheel until they decided to retire.
In addition to her parents, Janice was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Verland; three children, Darwin in 1960, Russell in 2006, and Larry in 2026; her sister, Donna Host and brother-in-law, Serrill; brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Margaret; two grandchildren, Michelle Barmore Bloom and Kristen Barmore Brooks.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Douglas and daughter-in-law, Kathy Barmore of Inverness; daughters-in-law, Carol of Gerry, NY and Althea of Guy Mills; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cecil and Barbara Barmore, Dean and Judy Barmore; grandchildren, Lori (Aaron) Gallivan, Keith Barmore, Brad (Crystal) Ring, Douglas (Johanna) Barmore, Jr., Derek (Stephanie) Ring, Jeremy (Katie) Barmore, Amber (John) Gray, Clayton (Lisa) Barmore; eighteen great grandchildren; seven great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Janice led a remarkable and long life. She loved her church, New Testament Baptist Church, Floral City, FL and the Friday Night Dinner Group. She will be dearly missed.
Graveside services will be held in Gerry, NY on July 18th, 2026. Flowers gratefully declined: memorials may be sent to New Testament Baptist Church, 9850 South Parkside Ave., Floral City, FL 34436. Private cremation arrangements under the direction of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory.
