David Hatfield was a beloved husband, brother, father, uncle, grandpa, great grandpa, friend, and treasured blessing. He had a special fondness for family and friends. He thought of others before he thought of himself, and he helped so many in their time of need. He took care of people, and he was active to intervene when he saw injustice. His sons would call him heroic.
David was loved and respected by those who knew him. He was charming, friendly, witty, and smart, with an endearing, self-effacing humor. Even as Alzheimer’s began to take his mind and his body, he always had a reason to smile and laugh, and it was contagious.
David was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Dolores (married Feb. 13, 1965). His brothers Ed, and Herbie, and his sister Sandy have passed. Surviving is his brother Richard. He is also survived by his sons Jim (J.D.) & his wife Margie, Chris, and Tony. His grandchildren Mandi, Devin, and Melody, and great grandchildren Ian, Erin, Vera, and Olive. Not to mention all those whose hearts and lives were indelibly touched by him. He was a dad to his son’s friends from school, and to those who worked for and with him. The Hatfield house was the place to gather and have fun, and to hear stories, and feel loved.
On November 29, 2015, David was baptized along with his grandchildren Devin and Melody, at the Riverside Christian Fellowship in Hernando, Florida. He attended Riverside when he came to live with his wife Dolores, his son J.D., and his wife Margie, in Hernando, in 2020.
