Shirley M. Moore, 95, of Hernando, FL passed away Tuesday, December 31,2024 at her home, surrounded by loved ones.
She was born in Rochester, New Hampshire to the late Owen and Ella (Robbins) Dexter on March 30, 1929. Shirley met and married her late husband, Donald J. Moore in Rochester and were married for 57 years before his passing in 2007. Shirley was also pre-deceased by her sister, Ruth Caie, and brother Wallace Angevine.
When she retired from Sears in Rochester, they moved to Stuart, Florida and lived there until 2006. Shirley was active in the Stuart Garden Club and volunteered for many years at the Humane Society there also. Shirley was born and brought up as a Methodist. When they relocated to Hernando in 2006, Shirley was very active in the Methodist Women’s Group, the United Women in Faith, and enjoyed baking and serving meals at the Resource Center through one of the Hernando United Methodist Church ministries. She was “famous” for her cupcakes and brownies at church functions and bake sales. She was active managing a greeting card ministry for her church family and maintaining the candles on the church Altar.
Shirley’s quick wit and humor were frequent and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. Above all, she believed it was important to be kind to everyone.
Shirley leaves her two daughters, Dianne R. Davis and Donna Moore-Lavoie, both of Hernando, FL.
Dianne and Donna wish to deeply thank the wonderful hospice staff at VITAS Healthcare in Lecanto for their kind and compassionate care of their mother. These special caregivers will always be remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to either the Hernando United Methodist Church, 2125 E. Norvell Bryant Hwy, Hernando, FL 34442 or VITAS Healthcare, 3280 W. Audubon Park Path, Lecanto, FL 34461. There will be Celebration of Life Service on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at 2:00 pm at the Hernando United Methodist Church. Cremation arrangements by Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
