Nicholas Ryan “Nick” Zaroba, age 44, of Dunnellon, FL, died unexpectedly at his home on September 27, 2026. Born in Phoenix, AZ, he was the son of John Anthony and Deborah Jo (Carr) Zaroba.
Nick served in the U.S. Navy’s search and rescue team aboard the USS Grasp in Jacksonville and later worked as a carpenter, roofer, and landscaper. He was proud of his high scores on the military’s Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB), including a 98th percentile in mechanical engineering and a near-perfect score on the Physical Readiness Test (PRT).
He was a talented writer and musician, and loved performing under the name “Big Z”. Nick was also into “extreme sports,” enjoying anything involving high speed, high adventure and high risk. His last goal was to skateboard from coast to coast to raise donations for those who were homeless, forgotten, or abandoned.
Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Debbie Zaroba of Dunnellon; daughter, Brooklynn; son, Weston; and sister, Asheley.
Private cremation arrangements are under the care of the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory.

I’ve always had such a soft spot in my heart for Nick. He stole my heart the first time I met him at 2 1/2.
