Where Planning Is A Gift That Lives On
Joseph Crupi

Joseph Crupi

Joseph Crupi, died at his home on September 17th, 2026 under the loving care of his family and Vitas Hospice. Also known to many simply as “Papa Joe”, he was a true pioneer.

Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” could have been the theme song of his life. He did things his way—fearlessly, passionately, sometimes stubbornly, and always with conviction.

Joseph was born in Laureana di Borrello and raised in San Ferdinando, Calabria, Italy. After marrying his beloved wife in 1960, the couple moved to Milan and eventually made their way to Toronto, Canada, they moved to Patchogue, New York in 1969.

He proudly served in the Italian Navy from 1952 to 1955. Following his military duty, he then attended chef school in Switzerland. He brought his love of cooking to his restaurant Papa Joes Pizzeria in downtown Inverness during the 1980’s.

Joseph spent 15 years as a chef on a barge for TECO Transport from 1985 to 2000.

Joseph truly accomplished his American dream. He became a business owner, worked hard, provided for his family, sent both of his daughters to college, and owned the home he had dreamed of owning. After a lifetime of working, taking risks, and building a life for his family, he was blessed with 25 years of retirement.

He is survived by his wife Carmela, his daughter Mary, his daughter Mandy and son-in-law Brad, and granddaughters Emily and Elise. Also survived by six sisters and their families who reside in Italy.

He recently celebrated his 91st birthday.

His family is grateful that he was able to live so fully and on his own terms for so many years.

Joseph Crupi leaves behind a legacy of courage, determination, adventure, and fierce love for his family.

He was truly one of a kind.

He will be deeply loved, forever missed, and always remembered.

The family is being assisted by the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory.
