William Michael Scheiterle, II (fondly known as “Blueberry Bill”) 81, of Inverness, FL, passed away at his home on August 20, 2026. He was born to the late William and Elinor (Hammond) Scheiterle in Olean, New York.
Bill proudly served two tours in Vietnam for our country in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was very involved with Veteran activities in Citrus County. He was a member of VFW Post 4252 in Hernando, FL where he led the Honor Guard conducting military funerals in Citrus County and was a former Commander for the Post. Bill was deeply involved with the Marine Corps League, Military Order of the Devil Dogs, Sons of the American Revolution and Citrus County Agricultural Alliance.
He and his wife Rhonda moved to Citrus County from Montrose, NY in 2000. Bill and Rhonda owned a U-Pick blueberry farm in Inverness for many years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 31 years, Rhonda Scheiterle of Inverness, FL; children: Matthew Scheiterle (Susanne) of Maryland; Robert Scheiterle (Melissa) of Tennessee; Chrysanthi Trahanas of Inverness, FL; sister, Kelly Hammond of Texas; and 3 grandchildren: Aaron Scheiterle, Marcus Scheiterle and Waylon Trahanas. Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
There will be a Memorial Service held by V.F.W. Post 4252 in Hernando, FL, on September 19, 2026 at 12 noon. Bill’s urn will be laid to rest at the Maple Dell Cemetery, Cuba, NY at a later date. The Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL is assisting the family.
