James R. “Jim” Salton, age 52, of Inverness, died unexpectedly, at HCA Citrus, on August 18, 2026. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of Robert B. and the late Marilyn (Hilscher) Salton, husband to Sheri Salton for 23 years, father to Skyler Salton Gainesville, FL, brother to the late Holli Saville and Kimberly Salton, uncle to Kimberly Saville, great uncle to Ruby and uncle to Vincent Saville, Pittsburgh, PA.
James was a Senior level manager in nuclear engineering for Duke Energy. Prior to Duke Energy he worked all over the world. Jim moved to the area from Margate, FL in 1996. They attended the Church of God in Crystal River and Redemption Point Church in Inverness.
Jim, also known as “Salty” was a great outdoorsman. He loved spending time on the boat, camping, hunting, fishing and flying airplanes. He could fix anything. He was a great cook; he knew his way around a smoker, but mostly he enjoyed spending time with his family.
A career highlight for Jim was receiving The James B. Duke Award in 2025 and again in 2026.This is Duke Energy’s prestigious internal employee recognition. It honors individuals and teams who demonstrate outstanding leadership, and innovative contributions that align with the company’s core values.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday, August 29th, 2026, from 2:00-4:00 PM, with a time of sharing to begin around 3:15 PM at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home in Inverness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mrs. Sheri Salton for their daughter’s college fund. Please mail your donation to: 3219 S. Rose Ave., Inverness, FL 34450.

Jim will be missed for sure. I met him and his family about six years ago camping and since then we would all meet up a few times a year and have some pretty good times my thoughts and prayers for Sheri and Skyler and the rest of there family
Jim was a great man. You won’t ever meet a person who knew him who would say otherwise. I’m grateful to have had the privilege of calling him my friend. He will be deeply missed.
I have worked with Jim for past 19 years. We had a lot in common including the love and admiration for our family’s. He truly loved Sheri and Skyler and would go to the ends of the earth for them if that’s what was needed of him. Jim was also a great friend to many and will definitely be missed by all.
I met Jim when I was contracting at Duke Energy in his department. . No matter what the issue, his office door was open, well 90% anyway. He would do what he could to help solve the issue. He would always greet you with a smile. I’m very glad I knew him and had the pleasure to work with him. I will miss him. Prayers to his family.

Jim will be greatly missed. I knew Jim as part of the NDE team for duke energy. Jim was a friend, co-worker, and mentor. Always willing to teach and coach, especially new engineers. My deepest sympathies to his family, I hope they know how much Jim was admired and loved at his work family and within the NDE industry.
Jim will be greaetly missed especially during this upcomng RNPoutage. I was ready to see that smile and use his credit card for a good lunch. I appreciate the nice person you were to me and my work group. You will me missed.
