Joanne Armstrong Hunter, of Inverness, passed away on Friday, August 7, 2026 at HCA Citrus Florida hospital. She was 90 years of age. Joanne was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 10, 1936 to Emersen and Lillis (Price) Armstrong.
Joanne loved children, so she earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Hillsdale College in early childhood education. She met Kenneth Hunter in 1959 and they married in 1960.
Joanne and Kenneth moved to Citrus County in 2001 from Redford, Michigan and they enjoyed Florida life together until his passing in 2006. She not only loved her family, but she also enjoyed spending her time quilting and knitting afghans. She was also a parishioner of First Christian Church of Inverness.
Joanne was preceded in death by not only her parents and her husband, but also her only sibling: her brother Robert Armstrong. Those left to cherish her memory are her devoted children: daughter Jeanne Hunter and her husband Matthew Phelan of Plymouth, Michigan and son Tim Hunter and his wife Diane Hunter of Laramie, Wyoming; her grandsons Brandon, Wesley, and Andrew Hunter; and her great grandchildren Alexander, Mackenzie, Elyjah, Izekiel, and Bellamy Hunter. She was much loved and will be greatly missed by those who knew her. Services for Joanne will be held at a later date in Michigan. Arrangements are in the care of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Cremation Care, Inverness.

Joanne was a dedicated supporter of the Lake Region Library. She served as the President of the Friends of the Library and worked at the library book sales for many years. I enjoyed knowing Joanne through Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority events. She loved cats and in her later years adopted older cats needing a home when one of her own cats died. Joanne was such a positive spirit and much loved by her quilting, church, library, and sorority friends.
