Lawrence Stanley Bastura, more affectionately known as “Larry,” went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, July 27, 2026, at the age of 79. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend who will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality, his love of classic cars, and the countless memories he created with those who knew and loved him.
Larry was born in Middletown, CT. to Stanley L. and Gwendolyn (Herdman) Bastura. His family later moved to Florida, where he graduated from Lindsey Hopkins Technical College in Miami with a television broadcasting certification.
Larry worked for various TV broadcast networks in Broward County for 30 years. In 1983, he met Maryann Harper Harris and they were married June 18, 1993. Having each been married before, together they blended their families into one.
Larry retired in 1997, and he and Maryann moved to Franklin, North Carolina. He often joked that he wanted to be retired for as long as he worked.
Retirement suited Larry well. He was an avid hunter, a devoted dog lover, and an award-winning classic car enthusiast. He took great pride in owning and showing his collection, with some of his favorite cars featuring striking airbrushed artwork of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. His hobbies weren’t just pastimes – they were passions, and the stories and memories they created will live on with those who knew him best.
In 2020, Larry and Maryann returned to Florida, settling in Beverly Hills so they could be “in the middle” of all the kids, a decision that brought them closer to the family they loved.
Those left to cherish Larry’s memory is his loving wife of 33 years Maryann H. Bastura of Beverly Hills, FL; his sons: Chris Bastura (Ashley) of Hudson, FL, Ronnie Harris of Ponce Inlet, FL, and Colby Harris of Ormond Beach, FL; his daughter Wendolyn Mayberry of Daytona, FL; his three grandchildren: Alana Kylie Harris, Oscar Harris, and Emelia Harris; and his faithful canine companion, Abigail.
The family will receive friends and loved ones for a Celebration of Life on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 1:00 PM at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Inverness.
