Donna Marie Lewis of Inverness passed away peacefully in Lecanto under Vitas Hospice care, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, July 23, 2026. She was 64 years of age.
Donna’s dad spent his career in the United States Air Force; therefore she was born in the hospital on Kindley Air Force Base in Hamilton, Bermuda. His career ultimately landed him in Florida, and Donna and her siblings finished growing up in Pinellas County.
Donna wore many hats: she worked as a dietary aide, a caregiver, and upon moving to Citrus County in 1992, she became a school bus driver. She belonged to the Women’s Marine Corps Auxillary, where she enjoyed their gatherings. Donna also volunteered her time assisting with the Order of Eastern Star events. She also enjoyed listening to music, ranging from AC/DC to Conway Twitty, going on road trips, painting on her phone, and taking pictures of different clouds that she thought looked like angels. Donna would drink her coffee with powdered creamer only, and she also loved to bowl. Her favorite pastime though was spending time with her family and friends.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents Aubrey E. and Clara V. (Shelby) Nelson. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Amanda Lewis of Inverness; her son Travis Lewis of Dunnellon, FL; her step-son Paul Lewis of Old Town, FL; her daughter-in-law Taylor Lewis of Citrus Springs; her sisters: Vicki Brady (Robert) of Kenneth City, FL and Theresa Nelson of Clearwater; her brother Aubrey E. Nelson, Jr. (Laura) of Clearwater; her three grandbabies: Owen, Cole, and Xaden (November 2026) Lewis; her nephew Austin Nelson of California; her nieces: Shelby Johnson (Dennis) of Spring Hill, FL, Virginia Nelson of Clearwater, FL, and Sarah Burgado (Jaime) of Debary, FL; and her extended family David Davidson, Jasmine Arnhold, and Caleb, Tucker, and Remy; and great niece, Claire and great nephew, Mason.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Cremation Care, Inverness.
