Walter Stanley Wolfe

Walter Stanley Wolfe, age 87 of Inverness, FL entered into the presence of our Lord July 22, 2026 under the care of his family and Vitas Hospice.  Mr. Wolfe was born in Covington, KY on August 4, 1938 to the late Eldon and Martha Mae (Crouch) Wolfe and came to this area in 24 years ago. 

A devoted husband, brother, loving father, uncle, cherished grandfather and great-grandfather, faithful servant of God, and proud American, Walter lived a life defined by his unwavering commitment to God, family, and country.

He proudly served his nation in the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer (E-7). Throughout his military career, he exemplified honor, courage, dedication, and leadership, earning the respect of those who served alongside him. His love for his country remained steadfast throughout his life.

Walter was employed over a total of 20 plus years at multiple Publix locations, where he formed friendships and bonds with co-workers and customers. 

Walter was a Master Mason, a member of Nature Coast Lodge #418 F&AM. He was a longtime member of Inverness Chapter #65 Order of the Eastern Star, having served several times as Worthy Patron. 

Walter devoted himself to the people he loved most. He shared an extraordinary 66 years of marriage with the love of his life, the Rev. Dr. Lois Anne Haines Wolfe. Together they built a home filled with faith, love, laughter, and countless cherished memories. Their enduring marriage is a testament to commitment, sacrifice, and unconditional love.

He was a devoted father, a proud grandfather, and an adoring great-grandfather. Nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his family, offering wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love. His daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will forever treasure the lessons he taught, the stories he shared, the time he spent with them and the example he set. 

In his spare time he enjoyed reading the newspaper, western and books, completing crossword puzzles, watching / following his favorite baseball and basketball teams (Tampa Bay Rays / Duke Blue Devils), and mowing the grass.

Walter was rarely seen without his Stanley filled with black coffee, no matter the time of day. 

As a faithful member of Inverness First United Methodist Church, Walter lived his Christian faith every day. He believed that life’s greatest calling was to love God, serve others, and lead by example. His quiet strength, humble spirit, and compassionate heart touched everyone who knew him. He was a man of prayer, integrity, and unwavering faith, finding comfort and purpose in God’s promises.

Those who knew Walter will remember him as a man of honor, kindness, wisdom, and deep conviction. Whether serving his country, supporting his church, or caring for his family, he approached every responsibility with humility and dedication.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, the Rev. Dr. Lois Anne Haines Wolfe; his daughter – Martha (Bill) Brown; brother – David (Anita) Wolfe; grandchildren – Shannon (Chris) Lutton, Timothy (Audrey) Brown, Bryan Brown; great-grandchildren – Emma Brown, James Schone, Avery Brown, Christopher Lutton; extended family; and many dear friends, all of whom will carry his legacy of faith, love, and service forward.

While our hearts grieve his passing, we rejoice in knowing that he has heard the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” and now rests in the eternal peace of his Savior. He is “home”.

His life reminds us that true greatness is measured not by earthly accomplishments alone, but by a steadfast faith, a loving heart, and a life devoted to God, family, and country.

Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, thanksgiving, and celebration of a remarkable man on his 88th birthday whose legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. A Celebration of Life is scheduled for Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the First United Methodist Church of Inverness with the Rev. Matthew Findley officiating. Friends may visit with the family at church from 10:00 AM until the hour of service. A military presentation will follow at The Fountains Memorial Park Cemetery in Homosassa and is scheduled to begin at 1:30 PM. Following the military presentation, family and friends are invited to return to First United Methodist Church in Inverness for food and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to the Walter Wolfe memorial fund at First United Methodist Church of Inverness.
