Robert Mont “Red” Layton, age 88, of Homosassa, died at Tampa General Hospital in Crystal River, FL on July 16, 2026. Born in Hollywood, FL, he was the son of the late Mont Board and Violet (Lockwood) Layton.
Red was an active member of VFW Post 8189 in Homosassa for many years.
In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by his brother, James.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter and son-in-law, Susan “Sue” and Terry Weston of Homosassa; sister-in-law, Jeanne Rice Layton of Altamonte Springs; nephew, Alan James Layton; one great nephew; three great nieces; and his caregiver, Jan.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 31, 2026 at 10:30 AM with military honors at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. His family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home around 9:00 AM to follow in procession to the cemetery at 9:30.
