Herbert M. “Herb” Pittman, of Inverness, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 9, 2026 under Hospice care. He was 80 years of age. Herb was born to the late John T. and Eula Mae (Hilliard) Pittman in Rhine, GA. He joined the United States Navy at the age of 18, and he proudly served his country for a little over six years during the Vietnam era. He had specialized training as a sonar technician, and he received the Vietnam service medal with three Bronze stars. While he was stationed in California, he met Pamela Davis, and they married in 1967.
When he was discharged in 1970, they made their home in Orlando, Florida. They moved to South Carolina for a while, then came back to Florida and settled in Reddick, where they owned about 12 acres. There, Herb loved farming and gardening, and he even restored old cars; he could build or fix anything. He especially enjoyed fishing every chance he had.
In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by his grandson, Ethan Joseph Pittman. Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 58 years, Pamela; son and daughter-in-law, Herb and Pam Pittman of Darien, GA; daughter, Jamie Pittman of Brunswick, GA; sister and brother-in-law, Vianne and Randal Stormant of Sorrento, FL; brother and sister-in-law, Jet and Anne Cornelius of Fort McCoy, FL; granddaughter, Candice Nicole Drew; and great granddaughter, Arilena Drew.
Herb will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Chapters HPH Hospice in Inverness, FL. Private arrangements are in the care of Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Cremation Care, Inverness.
